About Exam Cutoff Ranks

A cutoff rank (also called closing rank) is the last rank at which a seat in a specific college and branch was allotted during the official counselling process. Students with a rank equal to or better than the cutoff are eligible for that seat. Cutoff ranks vary by college, branch, round, and category (GM/SC/ST/OBC/EWS).

This tool lets you browse and compare official opening and closing ranks for three major engineering admission processes — KCET 2025 (Karnataka state engineering colleges via KEA UGCET), COMEDK 2025 (private engineering colleges in Karnataka), and JoSAA 2025 (IIT, NIT, IIIT and GFTI seat allotment via JEE ranks). Data is sourced directly from official allotment publications.

KCET 2025

Karnataka state engineering colleges. GM category closing ranks across 3 rounds of KEA UGCET allotment. Over 200 colleges and 30+ branches.

COMEDK 2025

Private engineering colleges in Karnataka. COMEDK UGET cutoff ranks for multiple rounds across all participating institutions.

JoSAA 2025

JoSAA is the Government of India's centralised counselling for IIT, NIT, IIIT and GFTI admissions. Seats are allotted using JEE Advanced rank (IITs) and JEE Main rank (NITs, IIITs, GFTIs) across 6 rounds.

Frequently Asked Questions – Cutoff Ranks

Compare your rank with the Round 1 closing rank of your target college and branch. If your rank is numerically lower (better) than the Round 1 cutoff, you have a strong chance. If it falls between Round 1 and Round 3 cutoffs, you may get a seat in later rounds. Use KCET for Karnataka colleges, or JoSAA for IIT/NIT/IIIT admissions.

KCET cutoffs are for government and aided engineering colleges in Karnataka, based on KCET rank. COMEDK cutoffs apply to private engineering colleges in Karnataka, using COMEDK UGET scores. JoSAA cutoffs are for centrally-funded institutes (IIT, NIT, IIIT, GFTI) using JEE Main/Advanced ranks. Each has a separate counselling process.

Cutoffs fluctuate each year based on the number of applicants, difficulty of the exam, and seat availability. However, previous year data (like KCET 2025 or JoSAA 2025) is the best available predictor for your 2026 admission chances. Always treat cutoffs as an estimate — a ±5–10% margin is typical for most colleges.

Round 1 cutoffs are the most competitive — only the highest-ranked candidates secure seats. As rounds progress, seats remaining after withdrawals are reallocated and cutoffs typically relax (increase numerically). If you missed Round 1, check Round 2 and Round 3 cutoffs. Some students also upgrade their branch or college in later rounds.

The KCET tool currently shows GM (General Merit) category cutoffs. JoSAA data includes the OPEN category. SC, ST, OBC-NCL and EWS category cutoffs are published separately by KEA and JoSAA on their official portals. Use the GM/OPEN data as a reference — reserved category cutoffs are always numerically higher (less competitive).
